Education

Keokuk area schools have recently taken the K-Pride initiative. It started at the high school level as a school-wide behavior system, PBIS (positive behavior, Intervention, and supports), that focuses on creating and sustaining school-wide, classroom, and individual supports that improve lifestyle results for students by helping reduce problem behaviors and increase desired behaviors. K-Pride focuses on the development of a core set of behavioral expectations and common language. Staff teaches social behaviors through examples, giving frequent opportunities to practice, all while providing positive feedback and constantly monitoring success. The K-Pride system reinforces the that desire to learn that most kids begin to lose by the time they reach high school. Parts of the K-Pride system have now trickled down to the primary level and has kids excited about school and the opportunities they are given at school.
